The traditional aluminum extrusion process naturally creates bow, twist and size deviation. Costly straightening and aligning is traditionally used to combat this discrepancy, resulting in a semi-straight aluminum extrusions that radically increases assembly and alignment cost. PBC Linear’s SIMO machines the aluminum extrusion in continuous lengths using synchronized cutters. This eliminates extrusion variances by machining all critical edges simultaneously in one pass, ensuring precision surfaces, tight tolerances, limited variance and remarkably straight extrusions! As the extrusions do not have to be manipulated or tweaked to incorporate linear motion components, the result is accurate, straight, and smooth linear motion with a cost savings that more than offsets the minimal cost of the SIMO post-processing!

 

SIMO™ processed extrusions also promote flexibility along with the direct use and integration of linear motion assemblies as part of their structure without machining mounting pads on to the machine. This increases the customer’s machine accuracy and rigidity while lowering assembly, alignment and structure costs. These benefits are evident in SIMO™ machined products; such as the PLA actuator, where the running tolerances closely match a machine tool slide. PBC Linear’s New Integral V™ Technology (IVT) series of systems, slides and stages also incorporates SIMO™ technology to provide frictionless, smooth running wheel and roller guidance up to 5 meters of travel. Unlike the PLA actuator, the Integral V™ systems are un-driven and designed to provide smooth and quiet linear motion as part of a machine structure or framing.
